Abstract

Low consumption of vegetables and fruits in children increases the risk of obesity and negatively impacts their growth and development. Age-appropriate health education can boost children's knowledge of healthy eating. The think pair share model promotes critical thinking and understanding of the importance of vegetables and fruits. This study analyzed the influence of health education using the think pair share model on the knowledge of vegetable and fruit consumption in school-age children. The study used a one-group pre-post test design with a population of grade III students at SDN 005 Tanjungpinang Kota. Simple random sampling selected 43 respondents. Data collection instruments using questionnaires. Univariate analysis showed most respondents were girls (53.5%) aged 9 (53.5%), and had received information about healthy eating (88.4%), mainly from teachers (41.9%). However, 60.5% had never received direct health education about the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits. Bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon sign rank-test showed a p-value of 0.000 (≤ 0.05). Before being given health education with the think pair share model, the majority of students had less knowledge (44.2%). However, after the intervention, the majority of students had good knowledge (97.7%). The statistical test results showed that the think pair share model positively affected students' knowledge of vegetable and fruit consumption. This model is effective for learning in problem-solving and critical thinking.
